Title PRINTED ADVERTISEMENT SEEKING: "AGENTS WANTED TO SELL THIS WONDERFUL BOOK: 'CAMP FIRE SKETCHES AND BATTLEFIELD ECHOES OR 61-5' THE MILLION EDITION ONLY $1.95"
Publisher Boston: Lindsay & Co., c. 1887.
Seller ID 350
6 1/2" x 10.5". Single sheet printed on both sides. Recto features the cover illustration from CAMPFIRE SKETCHES AND BATTLEFIELD ECHOES OR 61-5, a volume of civil war recollections. The advertisement seeks agents to sell the "Million Edition" of "this wonderful book" and entreats them to work for Lindsay & Co. by promising "Big Money for Live Agents". The verso is the frontispiece, entitled "The Union in Peril" and "engraved exclusively for 'Echoes of 61-5'". Better than very good condition with one small closed tear on the left margin and two creases where the sheet was folded. While subscription books used by book agents are uncommon, they can be found from time to time. Publisher's advertisements for book agents are much more difficult to find. This is the first we've ever seen. A rare surviving bit of nineteenth century biblioephemera.
