1 Porter, Jane, Ed. SEAWARD'S NARRATIVE OR HIS SHIPWRECK AND CONSEQUENT DISCOVERY OF CERTAIN ISLANDS IN THE CARIBBEAN SEA WITH DETAILS OF HIS RESIDENCE THERE AND OF VARIOUS EXTRAORDINARY AND HIGHLY INTERESTING EVENTS IN HIS LIFE.
New York: Harper and Brothers, 82 Cliff St., 1845 (1843).
3 3/4" x 6 1/2". 360. pp. "Abridged and Revised". Embossed brown cloth with gilt title and decorations on spine. Frontispiece illustration and title page vignette. Cloth rubbed through in many places around edges and corners. Head and foot of spine heavily chipped. Good. Though the author asserted that she was given the diary by the family of its writer, the DNB says that it is "doubtless largely, if not wholly fictitious". True or not, the book was the cause of great sensation when it was published.
