Wear to corners, head and foot of spine. Front hinge just beginning to weaken. Signed. #115/1600 copies. Aurora Esmeralda is the pen name of Ella Sterling Mighels, daughter of forty-niner Sterling B.F. Clark (HOW MANY MILES FROM ST. JO?). Though born after the death of her father, Ella writes eloquently of the "stained glass radiance of my life" and in 1919 became the first Literary Historian of California. The addenda at the back contains poetry, a song written by Mighels, and photos of the author and other Gold-Rush era Californians.
