Pomeroy, a widowed northern woman who served as an army nurse in the American Civil War. She cared for wounded Union troops and later for the family of Abraham Lincoln in the White House when Lincoln's sons Tad and Willie were sick and when Mrs. Lincoln was overcome by grief in the aftermath of Willie's death. Book appears to have been reprinted in 1887 under the title Echoes from Hospital and White House.
