Title and decorative devices on spine in gilt. Hand-colored, tissue-guarded frontispiece. Very good, with only slight fading to the gilt on spine. A collection of poetry and prose, compiled to instruct young, Christian ladies "in the attainment of excellence which all desire, and which all should pursue, as intelligent and accountable beings" (Preface). The pieces chosen for the book were written by Catherine Beecher, Lydia Marie Child, Margaret Coxe, and Theodore Parker, among others. Topics covered include, "Social Intercourse", "Idle Daughters", "Government of the Thoughts", and "Duties of Women to their Country", and many more.
